However, it is worth noting that FreeMeshX is not a photorealistic texture pack. It changes the shape of the land, not the color. If you install photoreal scenery on top of FreeMeshX, the textures will now "drape" over the correct, jagged hills and cliffs rather than flat polygons.
FreeMeshX compiles over —primarily NASA's SRTM 3.0 (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) data, which provides 30-meter resolution elevation samples—and condenses it into a manageable 46 GB package. The software then converts this raw data into BGL files that FSX and P3D can read, replacing the default terrain "bricks" that would otherwise flatten distant landscapes into unconvincing tabletop surfaces.
